We had a pretty busy month of July (still can’t believe that it’s already AUGUST! Sheesh!). We drove up to the U.P. of Michigan to stay at Jason’s family’s lake house. Peyton was so exited to go, as she remembered the boats, sand, and horses from last summer. Aiden didn’t quite know what to expect, but he had fun once we got up there. He was NOT a fan of the ten hours it took us to drive there though. The poor guy kept pulling on his car seat screaming, “Out! Out!”

Here are the kids taking their first boat ride of the trip. Aiden had stuffed his mouth with grapes before we took off; hence his funny expressions in some of the pictures!

Unfortunately it was pretty chilly/overcast/rainy for a good chunk of our trip. However, one nice morning we took advantage of the sun shining and played in the sand by the house. The kids were in love, and could’ve easily spent all day playing out there. We were all bummed when the rain clouds moved in…

It has turned into a tradition to take the kids to sit on a horse. Last year Peyton cried and Aiden didn’t even try it, but this year both kids loved it! They even walked them around in a circle. Hopefully in a few years the kids will be ready to ride the horses around the island!

As you can see, we had a great trip! We are so thankful to have a place to visit every summer and to continue the tradition that Jason grew up with. Thanks so much for having us, Mike and Colleen! The kids can’t wait until next year!!!

Now to switch gears to…house updates! Before we left for Michigan, we made sure to swing by the house since they had just insulated it. I wanted our family to write on the insulation before they dry-walled as a way of personalizing our new home. We wrote hopes for our family, and the kids had fun scribbling! 😉

I know I didn’t include any pics of the den (AKA my new photography studio!) last time, so here is a quick one. You can’t really tell much from it, but I am super excited to have a dedicated space for my business! (AND a dedicated closet to store all my backdrops, floors, and props!!!):

July 2014-217

I hope to have lots more to share soon! Our closing date is now September 5th, which is later than they had originally told us. Bummer. But luckily the people that bought our old house don’t need to be out of their apartment until the end of September, so we can continue renting back to avoid the double move. Yay! More updates to come…

June 16, 2014

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a personal blog (or personal pictures, for that matter), so I figured I’d do a little update!  Especially since my mom is in Ireland and has been dying for pictures and updates on the kids! I have been busy doing fun summer stuff with Peyton and Aiden, and my photography business is starting to pick back up now that the weather is nice. On a business note – I’ve been good about blogging all of my current spring sessions. I still have a TON of sessions from last year that I need to blog. So if you see some random fall pictures pop up on here, that’s why! I am super excited about a bunch of births I have coming up. Even though those take the most time (to photograph AND edit), they are my absolute favorite. I get giddy in the weeks leading up to a birth! Okay, now on to all my personal blog stuff…

In case you missed it – we’re moving! So yeah, that’s been another crazy busy thing going on in our world. We ended up having two second showings, and one made an offer pretty quickly. We accepted the offer on our house before it had even been on the market for three weeks. I know God had His hands in the entire process, because it all worked out perfectly. I started talking with the girl who is buying it on Facebook, and I am super excited to see our old house go to a sweet family! They have a little boy around Aiden’s age, and they said that the baseball room was one of the deciding factors in buying it. I am SO excited that the baseball wall won’t be painted over and that another little boy can enjoy it. I am looking forward to having them as neighbors, since our new house will be right down the street! We are set to close on June 23rd or 24th, and will then rent back from them until ours is ready since their lease isn’t up until September. So our house is officially…

April-May 2014-81

While I am super sad about this chapter of our life coming to a close, I am so excited for the new one that’s ahead. Before we say goodbye to our old house, I have asked my wonderful friend and mentor, Annie, to do a special lifestyle session in it. I can’t wait to have pictures of our family “doing life” in the house that we grew our family in. I look forward to sharing those pictures with all of you, as well as hanging some of them on the walls of our new house to remember where we’ve been. Speaking of the new house, it’s coming along! I will post some pictures of the progress further down in this post. 🙂

The kids have been lots of fun lately. Sometimes I mean that sincerely, and other times I mean that sarcastically. People weren’t joking when they warned about the terrible two’s and the (even more) terrible three’s. Peyton’s been in between those two phases of life for awhile now, and testing every ounce of my patience. Aiden is starting to show signs of the two’s (tantrums, whining, clinging, etc.), so having TWO kids trying to exert their independence and opinions has been a blast. I wasn’t thinking about that when we decided to have kids 18 months apart! Even though we have our rough days, for the most part they are joys to be around. For every tantrum we have, we have HOURS of nice playing and happy kids. I will talk plenty more about Miss Peyton in a week for her annual birthday post. I also have some hilarious pictures to share of her being…well…HER! 😉

Aiden seems to get more fun by the day. He babbles all the time, and is starting to talk. His favorite words are “bayball” (baseball) “guck” (truck), “Sadie,” “Thereitis!” (“There it is!” all squeezed together) and “Dae doo!” (Thank you!). He is all about baseball, which is a good thing because he really doesn’t have much choice. 😉 He still loves to cuddle, and continues to be a mama’s boy. While part of me wants to break him of this, the majority of me just wants to enjoy it. He and Peyton are quite the team these days. They are constantly running around, wrestling, and playing together (and by playing, I mean sometimes fighting over toys! Ha!). He has a personality and opinion all his own, and it’s been fun seeing him become more independent. This boy continues to have my heart, and I have such a hard time saying no to that sweet face. I mean, just look at those blue eyes and long lashes!!! Love that boy to death.

Here are some of the things we’ve been up to lately. Brace yourself for tons of photos. Seriously. I told my mom I’d post lots of pics of the kids while she’s away, so here goes…

First of all, I have to take a minute to say “Happy Father’s Day!” to Jason. He is absolutely the best daddy I could’ve asked for to our kids, and we are so lucky to have him. Here he is with the kids after his baseball game yesterday. Love these three!

Normally I try and do a specific post for each holiday, but I am so far behind on Easter that I’m not even going to mess with it this year! So here are some pictures and quick descriptions of what we did. We had a great day, and loved spending time with family!

The night before Easter, we dyed eggs. We tried an egg spinner contraption that was great for Aiden. Peyton enjoyed it, but it was a little too easy for her. I think next year we’ll go back to normal egg dying techniques!

The theme for Aiden’s first birthday party was a no-brainer.

The kid has a baseball themed nursery

B37 Weeks and Rooms-22

He had a baseball themed newborn photo shoot

BAiden Newborn-58

It was only fitting that his birthday party was baseball themed, too! Plus, I don’t think his dad would have had it any other way. I had SO much fun planning his party! I am totally IN LOVE with his birthday invites! I tried to get a picture of them to post on here, but wasn’t able to get it to work. If you want to check them out, click here!

I think I got a little carried away with the whole concession stand idea. We had hot dogs (made in a crock pot thanks to Pinterest!), Larosa’s pizza (served at the Cincinnati Red’s stadium), popcorn, peanuts, Cracker Jacks, and nachos. YUM! I bought the adorable popcorn bags at Oriental Trading. I found all of the baseball decorations at Simone Made It, and they were super easy to customize!

The dessert table was just as yummy as the concession stand! We had baseball cupcakes from Sam’s (super affordable!), ice cream, and COTTON CANDY! Oh, and we also had Double Bubble gum. I put them in a glass baseball that we had gotten flowers in when Aiden was born (thanks, Grandma Marianne!). This party definitely wasn’t the healthiest, but I chose to run with the theme no matter what. I hope no one had belly aches when they got home! HA! I found the cute baseball dessert plates and napkins at Oriental Trading, too. Love that place! 🙂

I didn’t go too overboard on the decorations, but I was pretty excited about the “Aiden Hit a Homeone” banner I made. I got the idea from Pinterest, and it was the prefect way to display Aiden’s monthly pictures! I am so thankful that my mom and dad let us have the party at their house. As many of you know, our house is pretty tiny and we don’t have much room for entertaining large crowds. Hopefully someday we’ll own a home that can hold all the people we love! 🙂

We had our guests sign a baseball for Aiden. We will put it in a glass case in his room, just like we did for the ball with his footprint on it from the day he was born. I am a bit obsessed with all these baseballs with sentimental value!

BAiden's 1st bday-116

Aiden loved his baseball smash cake (also from Sam’s!). He was a little hesitant at first, but daddy shoved his hand in to get things started. He ended up literally SMASHING his cake, and it was everywhere. SUCCESS!

All the kids went home with a baseball themed goody bag. Inside were baseball tattoos, stickers, a baseball bouncy ball, lollipop (all found at Oriental Trading), and peanuts, Cracker Jacks, and Double Bubble gum. How freaking adorable were the favor tags?! I think they were my favorite part of Simone’s baseball printables!

We had a great day celebrating our sweet boy. Even though it was a cold and snowy day, we had fun pretending it was baseball season! I hope all of our guests had a great time. We appreciated everyone spending the day with us and loving our little guy!

**Update** I was awarded “Best Decorations” from for Aiden’s party! They reached out to me after seeing this blog post, and I am honored to accept the award. Of course we thought the party was super cute, but it’s flattering to know that others (even complete strangers!) think so too! 🙂

January 20, 2014

It’s pretty late right now, and boy did we have a fun day celebrating your first birthday! I always love taking time to sit down and reflect on my kiddos on their birthdays, and this is a special one for you. Your first year of life flew by, and was filled with such fun and many, many milestones!

I still remember the day I found out I was pregnant with you. It was March of 2012, and I ran out of the bathroom to tell your daddy. We were both a little surprised, as we got pregnant with you a little quicker than we thought we would, but we were both so excited to grow our family! You gave me a fairly easy pregnancy (compared to your silly sister!), and we all couldn’t wait to meet you. Your daddy was SO excited when we found out that you were a boy! He had a huge grin on his face all day, and I thought everyone knew what you were before our gender reveal party because he couldn’t wipe off that silly smile!

We went in for our scheduled induction on Friday, December 21st 2012 and were preparing for a long labor and delivery. Pitocin was started around 9 am, and you were born at 4:10 with only a few pushes! I instantly fell in love with you. I knew I’d love you, but the idea of having a boy kind of scared me. I knew what to do with girls, but boys were a whole different ballgame. Those worries faded the second you were placed in my arms. Just as your sister wrapped your daddy around her finger, YOU wrapped ME around yours! From the get-go, you would snuggle into my shoulder and want to be close to me. Oh, how I loved having a cuddly baby!

You have continued to be a mama’s boy, and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. I hope that even when you’re a teenager you will love your mama and we’ll still have our special bond. I’m already starting to dread the day you tell me you’ve met the girl of your dreams. Of course I’ll be happy for you, but you will always be my baby and it’s going to be hard to share you! 😉 You melt my heart and I often catch myself just staring at the handsome little guy that you are. How in the world did I get so lucky to have you?!

One of my most favorite times of the day is putting you to sleep at night. I reserve that job for myself partly because you can be tricky to get to sleep, but mainly because I love our special time together. I feed you your bottle, and then you snuggle up on my shoulder while I wait for you to burp. I swear you were created to fit perfectly on my shoulder, and I love snuggling with you while I sing you songs. I usually sing, “You are my Sunshine,” and will often put in “Aiden” where it says “Sunshine.” You will then lunge for your bed after you’ve had enough cuddles, and will usually drift right off to sleep. You hold your little baseball lovie close to you and sleep soundly the entire night.

Some things I always want to remember about you are:

*Your HAIR! People are always amazed at how much you have, and never believe me when I tell them you’ve already had four or five haircuts in your first year of life!

*You love to eat! Thank the Lord I don’t have to force food down your throat like your sister. But you inherited your father’s weird texture thing when it comes to food. You won’t eat anything that’s slightly slimy, such as most fruits, mashed potatoes, macaroni, cheese, etc. You live off peanut butter sandwiches, chicken nuggets, and grilled cheeses these days.

*You love music. You like to dance, clap, and “sing along” when music is playing. You have good rhythm, too!

*You are super easy-going. You let your sister boss you around, and if she takes your toy, you’ll usually just find something else to play with. You are starting to stand up for yourself more though, which I am happy to see. Peyton isn’t as excited about that as I am.

*You do the funniest crawl/scoot thing. You are so fast at getting around that way that I really don’t think you see any point in trying to walk. I know you’ll be running around the house soon enough, so I’m just enjoying your silly crawl for now.

*Your smile…oh, that smile! You are the easiest kid ever to get to smile. If I just look at you a certain way, you’re grinning ear to ear. You’re pretty easy to get to laugh, too. You are ticklish, especially on your legs when daddy squeezes them. I could look at that smile and listen to that laugh for hours at a time.

I just want to freeze time. I love every stage that you’re in, but I’m a little sad about how quickly you’re growing up. You are such a fun little guy to have around, and I really cannot picture our lives without you. God knew we needed a happy little boy with a head full of hair, and I’m so glad He sent you to us. I thank Him every day for you.

Your first year of life has been a whirlwind, but such a great one. I can’t wait to see what the next years have in store for you!

I love you, my little man!

My parents kept Peyton the night before Aiden’s birthday so that we could spend some special time with just him. We took him to Buck’s for dinner, which is where we took Peyton to celebrate her 1st birthday, too. It’s just a casual little restaurant near our house, but they have the BEST hot chocolate chip cookie and ice cream! We took a candle and sang Happy Birthday to him, and he sure loved his dessert!

After his morning bottle, I set him on the floor to play. All of a sudden, I could hear paper tearing behind me. I looked behind the couch, and there was the birthday boy tearing into his present that I was planning on giving him later. So what did I do? I grabbed my camera and let him go at it! Poor Jason didn’t get to see him open it, but I just didn’t have the heart to take it away from him. He loves his Scout Reader!

On Aiden’s actual birthday, we went to our friend’s birthday party. Riley was born on the same day at the same hospital as Aiden, and his mom is my godmother’s daughter. What are the chances?! Our family had a blast celebrating Riley at Entertrainment Junction. They were so sweet and even got a smash cake for Aiden, too. He was ALL about getting messy, and silly me didn’t bring extra clothes. Thank goodness Ali saved me with some of Riley’s!

January 07, 2014

I love Christmas. I always have, but I must say that being a parent during the holidays is the best. There’s just something special about introducing your children to traditions and the magic of Christmas. Peyton was at a GREAT age this year to really begin to understand the holiday season. Jason and I made sure we continued traditions that we loved from our own families, and created new traditions for our own family as well

The mom’s group I have joined through Crossroads had a great meeting about family traditions during the holidays. Carolyn (one of our leaders) gave a wonderful talk about what her family’s traditions were, and listed them out for us to get ideas. I LOVED that idea, and so appreciated her encouragement to think about traditions I want to start for our family. So I am going to list all of the special things we did this year, and include pictures for some of them. I hope this inspires you to think about traditions you would like to either begin or continue with your own family!

*Chippie the elf came to live with us for the month of December. Peyton loved watching him move around our house each day. He didn’t do anything too creative this year, but we’re sure he’ll step up his game next year! He did “decorate” the kids’ tree that Grandma Colleen got the kids!

BChristmas 2013-1

*Speaking of the tree, Peyton had fun decorating it. Thanks again, Grandma! Aiden just looked on from his high chair this year. I’m sure he’ll be all about helping to decorate next year!

BChristmas 2013-3 BChristmas 2013-8 BChristmas 2013-9 BChristmas 2013-12 BChristmas 2013-14

*We read lots of books about Christmas before naps and bedtime. Chippie brought the book “The Story of Christmas” by Patricia A. Pingry. It came highly recommended from my good friend Mandi, and I love it! It is a great basic story of the first Christmas for little ones. Peyton will proudly tell you that it’s Jesus’ birthday on Christmas, and that His mom’s name is Mary and His daddy’s name is Joseph. So cute!

*We bust out the Christmas movies in December, too. Our fav’s include the Polar Express and the classic Christmas movies (Rudolph, Frosty, etc.).

*We went to the festival of lights at the zoo (twice!). If you go, I highly recommend seeing the Polar Express in 4D!

*Entertrainment Junction’s holiday display has a great Santa and Mrs. Claus! (Of course the trains are cool, too!)

*PRASCO in Mason’s holiday event. This was an awesome free thing that we lucked into this year. Tickets for it go quick, so I hope we can make this an annual tradition if we can get tickets each year! All the candy and treats at the end were AMAZING! Peyton was in heaven (and so were we!). Someone described it as walking into Charlie’s Chocolate Factory, and I totally have to agree.

*LM&M Railroad’s Polar Express train. It was a little pricey, and I don’t think we’ll do it every year, but it was fun and something we’ll do again in the future.

*Holiday train display at Union Termial. I took the kids with a friend for a play date mid-week and it was great (not too busy). I think it is probably packed on the weekends, but still fun!

*Crossroads’ Awaited Christmas show. If you’ve never been, you need to go! Our little ones have done great watching it, but I know others that got scared. The beginning is a little dark, but the middle and the end are great! I recommend getting tickets in advance (they’re FREE!), as it’s always a packed house. We love inviting our family and friends to join us.

*Of course we had to set out cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve before the kids went to bed! Maybe next year we’ll remember some food for the reindeer, too!

BChristmas 2013-17

*I always try and take some pictures of the filled stockings and the presents under the tree on Christmas Eve once “Santa” has left.

BChristmas 2013-24 BChristmas 2013-26 BChristmas 2013-28 BChristmas 2013-35

We spend most of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with our families. We are blessed to have both sets of parents in town, so we get to spend time with everyone. One thing Jason and I decided when we became pregnant with Peyton was that Christmas morning would be reserved for our own little family. I have always loved the idea of sleeping in (IF the kids let us!), staying in our PJ’s, opening presents at our own pace, and letting the kids play with their toys until their little hearts are content. I of course had my camera out and caught the kids seeing the tree and gifts for the first time.

BChristmas 2013-37 BChristmas 2013-40 BChristmas 2013-44 BChristmas 2013-46 BChristmas 2013-53

Peyton was also excited to see that Santa ate the cookies and milk, and that Chippie had left a goodbye note for her and Aiden.

I plan to take a family photo of us all in front of the tree before opening gifts every year. I used the self timer on my camera, and was actually happy with how they turned out! I don’t usually use this feature, so it was kind of a big deal for me.

BChristmas 2013-56 BChristmas 2013-57

We also started a new tradition this year: we made a “birthday cake” for baby Jesus. Really, it was just Pillsbury cinnamon rolls in the shape of a Christmas tree. If this was going to be a tradition, it needed to be an easy one I could keep up with year after year! Peyton loved helping me make it, and we put four candles on it (one for each member of our family). We sang Happy Birthday to Jesus, and then blew out the candles. I must say, it’s one of my favorite things we did this Christmas. In the midst of all the Santa excitement and family get-togethers, it was a nice way to remind ourselves of the true reason for the season! All day Peyton kept saying, “It’s Jesus’ birthday!” Notice that “baby Jesus” stayed next to her or in her hand the entire time. She also had him “eat” some of his cake after we sang.

Below are some more pictures from Christmas morning (mainly of the kids opening their presents). We decided that another tradition we’re starting is that Santa brings three presents, just like the wise men brought three gifts to baby Jesus. Peyton’s three things that she asked Santa for were a pink house, a (pretend!) kitty cat, and a baby doll. Well, she often asked for a “real baby, but I told her she needed to talk to daddy about that, not Santa! 😉

Of course mommy and daddy (and the dogs!) bought other presents, so they got more than just three. But I think Santa only bringing three will (hopefully) help limit the greed in years to come. They can think of the three things they REALLY want, and then anything they get beyond those are just a bonus! 🙂

October 10, 2013

Age: 8 & 9 Months

Stats: 28 ¾ inches long (70%) and 18 pounds (24%)

New Developments:

Lots of new developments these days! Because I have been a slacker mom, I’ll try and update them all! He got his first two (bottom) teeth at about 6 ½ months, and is now getting his top two teeth at 9 months. They’ve broken through the gum, but aren’t quite visible in his smile yet. I am loving his sweet smile with the two bottom ones peeking out!

Houston, we have a crawler! He has been on the move since about 8 months. He also has transitioned to pulling himself up and table-walking. I am curious to see if he’ll be walking at his first birthday!

He got his second haircut at about 8 ½ months. He needed it. Bad! I have a feeling we’re going to be frequent fliers to Cookie Cutters.

He is loving baby food, Puffs, and is starting to experiment with some small pieces of table food. He has quite the gag reflex, so he kind of struggles with solids. He must have texture issues like his daddy!

Favorite Things:

His favorite toys tend to be his sister’s, which she is NOT a fan of. She’ll shake her finger at him and say, “No, Aiden! No! No!” and take it away from him. She’s learned to give him one of his toys in its place, but usually he’ll just crawl off to look for something else of hers. And so the sibling rivalries begin…

Puffs and Yogurt Melts are his favorite things to eat, and he’ll do pretty much anything to get them. He has also learned how to play “Peek-a-Boo” with a blanket over his head, and he loves to shake his head no. His favorite words are “Dada,” “Baba,” and (occasionally) “Mama.” Of course these are just sounds and not aimed at anyone yet, but it’s still cute nonetheless.

Note From Mama:

How is it possible that you get more fun by the day? I love watching you learn new things, and am so thankful I’m home to see all of your “firsts.” You are seriously the happiest baby. Like, ever. Your smile and laugh melts my heart, and I love the big grins I get when I get you out of your crib. Of course when you’re not happy, you can cry like the best of ‘em. You also like to fight drinking your bottles when other people feed you, and on your bad days you even fight ME! But if that’s the worst of what you have to deal out, I’ll take it! Your bedtime snuggles are the best, and I try to soak them up every chance I get. I know it won’t be much longer that you’ll want to curl up on my shoulder, and I am dreading that day.

Aiden, you continue to bring so much joy to our lives. I think about what life would be like if we hadn’t decided to have you yet, and I just can’t picture our family without you in it! You and your sister are best buds, your daddy is so happy to have you for a son, and I feel blessed every day to be your mama. I get teary eyed every time I sit down to write these letters. I just love you SO much!

Age: 26 & 27 Months

Stats: Still around 21ish pounds. She better watch out – her brother is quickly catching up to her!

New Developments:

I WISH I could write that she is potty trained, but sadly that isn’t the case. She made progress and will now sit on the big potty with a potty seat (she used to be afraid of it). She still pees if she has anything on (panties, pull-up, etc.), and even peed in OUR bed when I was attempting a bare-bottomed bootcamp. Yep, she picked the ONE bed in our house that doesn’t have a waterproof liner on it. She also managed to pee on the pillows, too. Needless to say, we’re taking another potty training break!

In happier news, Peyton is talking up a storm! I’m talking full sentences, with appropriate expression. She is such a little kid now! Some of her new phrases are, “Awww! That’s so cute!” “I want to do it!” and pretty much anything else she wants to say. I love that she can fully express herself, and that I can usually understand what she is saying.

Favorite Things:

Peyton continues to play with her dolls, dollhouse and figurines, and kitchen. She is very into coloring these days, and I plan to step up the art projects when we’re stuck inside this winter! She did draw a line on the wall with a marker, which I guess was bound to happen eventually. We had a big talk after that! She loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Doc McStuffins, and has stopped asking about Calliou as much. (Phew!) Her favorite foods include cupcakes, cake, and ice cream, which she will request at all hours of the day even though we rarely have them at our house. Lucky for her she can afford to eat all that and STILL won’t gain a pound! 🙂

Her new thing is that she likes to “read” her books instead of always listening to us read them. Jason swears she knows Green Eggs and Ham. I am not as easily sold, but I do think it’s cute that she turns the pages, comments on each page, and usually makes a comment about something that is happening in the picture. She should have the skill of predicting with picture walks down by preschool! 😉

Note From Mama:

Oh how I love having you for my little girl! You are growing up so quickly before my eyes, and while I am loving it, I wish you’d stay my baby just a little bit longer. You always have the best attitude when I wake you up in the mornings, and I love sitting with you watching cartoons before our day gets started. I love that you have your own agenda for the day, which usually includes riding the rides (Kings Island), the zoo, or going to Gina’s house. While we don’t get to do those things EVERY day, you sure enjoy them when we do! I get a kick of how you say, “We go SHOPPING!” every time we pass a Target. You’re a girl after my own heart!

Speaking of being like your mama…I’m afraid you’ve inherited my need for things to be clean and organized. Whenever Aiden pulls books off your bookshelf or throws things all over the place, you say, “Oh no, Aiden! Messy! Messy! Messy!” Yep, you like your things to be put away where they belong. We’ll see how long that trait lasts!

You still have your daddy wrapped around your finger, and I think he falls even more in love with you each day. You two are best buddies, and I am so thankful that you have each other. You light up when you hear him come home from work, and he lights up when he sees you, too. I love that he puts you to bed every night. I sometimes listen in on the monitor when he’s reading you books and tucking you in. (Shhh! Don’t tell!) He always said he was afraid to have a daughter, and now that you’re here, I know his world would crumble if anything ever happened to you.

I love you so much, sweet girl.

Peyton decided she was jealous when I took Aiden’s pics in the “bathtub” during our photo shoot. So she decided to hop in and pose too. Looks a little silly with a big kid in it, but I got a kick out of it! 😉

Peyton has been taking gymnastics this fall. While I don’t think we’ll do it regularly (can we say EXPENSIVE?!), she has loved every class! She also loves the fact she can wear a special “dress.” Finally we have somewhere that she can run, climb, and flip as much as she wants! Love this girl!

New Developments:

Oh my…month 6 was a big one for this boy! He learned to sit up, got his first tooth, and his first hair cut! He looks like a little boy now. I think he is so stinkin’ cute, but I’m still sad that he’s growing up so fast. Here are some pictures of his new “firsts”:

Favorite Things:

Aiden loves the jumperoo even more these days. He actually jumps in it instead of just playing with the toys. He loves it so much that he jumps up and down on ME when he’s not in it! 😉

He loves putting everything (and I mean EVERYTHING!) in his mouth. Sure he likes the typical baby teethers, but his favorite things to chew on are the soft, rubbery spoons that I use to feed him baby food. Speaking of which, he FINALLY has figured out the whole eating thing! It took him awhile to get the hang of it, but now he is an eating machine! He prefers the mixed baby food (such as sweet potato, corn, and carrot) to the single baby food (plain carrots are NOT his thing!).

Peyton continues to be Aiden’s favorite form of entertainment. Here are some pictures I snapped when Peyton decided to climb into his crib while I was taking his 7 month pictures. Look at the face on this boy – he sure ADORES his big sis! (And please excuse her naked bum. We’re still working on the whole potty training thing…I did put a diaper on her once I knew she’d be in some pics! Hehe)

Note From Mama:

I have to admit that when I first found out you were a boy, I was a little nervous. I had no idea what I was going to do with a boy. I knew girl stuff. I was all about bows, pink, and baby dolls. I loved your sister SO much, and felt such a special connection with her. I worried that I wouldn’t have the same connection with a boy.

Boy, was it silly for me to worry about that! I never thought I could love having a boy as much as I do. You are SUPER cuddly, and you always want to snuggle with your mama. When I feed you your bedtime bottle, you immediately turn your whole body towards me wanting to cuddle after you’re finished eating. There are times I try to sit you up for you to burp, and you keep contorting your body until you’re snuggled up on my shoulder. It is one of my favorite times of the day, and I usually don’t let daddy put you to bed for that reason! 🙂

The older you get, the more personality I get to see. You seriously are the most smiley baby ever. I could spend hours just looking at you, making funny faces and sounds, and cracking up at your big gummy grins and laughter. You LOVE to smile for the camera, which I so appreciate. Of course I rarely take the time to do photo shoots with you, mainly because your sister wants nothing to do with my camera nowadays. Oh, and sometimes it’s hard for me to find time to SHOWER, much less take professional pictures of you guys! 😛 I really need to make more of an effort to take pictures of you though, as you are a photographer’s dream! Every time I edit pictures of you, I find myself smiling from ear to ear. You are such a handsome little guy, and I am so proud to be your mom.

While I think your sister takes after your daddy personality wise, I think you’re going to take more after me. You seem to be a little more mellow and not quite so daring. I’m hoping you don’t ever get your sister’s strong will! 😉 Of course we will love you no matter what disposition you end up with, but it’s fun seeing myself in you.

I feel like you were born yesterday, and yet I know we’ll be planning your first birthday in no time. I can honestly say that I love you more each and every day, and I can’t imagine my life without you. Thank you for adding so much joy to our family!

Love you, little man!

Age: My big girl is TWO! (25 months, to be exact)

Stats: 20 lbs, 12 ounces. Yes, my daughter is only 4 ounces heavier than she was 3 months ago. Technically we should just now be turning her forward facing in the car. (She’s been forward facing for awhile now…whoops.) Sigh.

New Developments:

We’re (still) working on the potty training thing. She does fine at home if she’s bare bottomed. She will go straight to her potty, sit down, and pee. But she’s not doing as well when she has underwear on, and she refuses to poop in the potty. She’ll request (or should I say demand) a diaper if she has to poo. She’ll hold it until she has one on. Also? She hates sitting on big potties. She even refuses to sit on her own little potty if I bring it out with us in public. So yeah, that’s where we’re at right now. Since we’ve been so busy with Summer stuff, and since I’m not going back to my teaching job this year (much more on that later!), I think I’m going to wait until Fall to potty train full-force. Sigh. Shrug.

Favorite Things:

Peyton’s favorite books to read before naps and bedtime are The Big Hungry Bear, Madeline, and Green Eggs and Ham. She has officially transitioned from requesting her typical board books to regular paperback or hardcover books. Yay for better plots! It makes me smile when she picks out The Big Hungry Bear and Madeline, as they were both books from my childhood. They may be a little raggedy, but she loves the stories just as much as I did!

Oh, these next two favorites are funny…

Peyton is on a deer kick right now. She requests to go look for deer every time we go to my parent’s house. I blame my father for this new obsession! It’s pretty cute though. She calls them like you would a dog. “Heeeere deeeeer!” So when we went to Michigan a few weeks ago, Jason planned a trip to the deer ranch. Yes, there is such a place. They rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured deer. I think this was Peyton’s favorite part of the trip. She came home with a deer sweatshirt and deer stuffed animal from the gift shop. More pictures are to come in my post about our Michigan trip, but here are a few of Peyton in her idea of Heaven…

BSummer 2013-5 BSummer 2013-8

Another favorite of Peyton’s? Caillou. Yes, that annoying bald four year old on PBS. She started watching it because it was the only kids show on during the time between lunch and nap. I was a great mom and would have her watch it while I was feeding Aiden and putting him down. Yes, he was a little annoying, but she was glued to the TV and it seemed to teach some good lessons for toddlers. She was obsessed with the characters, and would call for Gilbert (the cat) and Sarah (Caillou’s friend) at home and out in public. It took me a little while to figure out who she was calling for! Harmless enough though, right?! Well…Peyton started whining. And saying things like, “No, I don’t want to!” “No, I don’t like that!” and “I want that NOW!” At first I couldn’t figure out where this newfound (bratty) voice was coming from. I chalked it up to her being two, learning to talk, and testing the limits. My oh-so-smart hubby was the one that figured out that her newfound favorite phrases were coming from the mouth of Caillou! After paying more attention, I agreed that she was picking up bad habits from the show. So now we are staging a Caillou intervention. It is not pretty. She asks to watch the show all the time, and I have to tell her that he’s sleeping. There have been a few times I’ve caught her sneaking a fix on the PBS app on our I-Pad. But we’re trying our best to de-brattify our daughter. Sigh. Shrug. Eye roll.

Note From Mama:

Even though I may complain about your “two year old brattiness,” you really are such a good girl. You usually listen and do what’s asked of you, stay near me when we’re out in public, use your manners (you’ve finally mastered saying “Please” and “Thank you” at appropriate times!), and are a sweetheart. I love spending my days with you. Our favorite outings this summer have been to the zoo, Kings Island, the pool, and of course play dates with friends. You love seeing all the animals at the zoo, especially the penguins and other birds in the bird house. I’m sure if they had deer at the zoo, you’d want to go there every time, too. 🙂 You love riding whatever rides you’re tall enough for at Kings Island. Your favorite is the Beetle Bugs (or “buggie ride” as you call it). You also love the trains (little and big!), the cars, and the helicopters. I can’t wait for you to be able to ride more adventurous rides next year, as the ones you are tall enough for now just don’t seem to be exciting enough for you. You are my little daredevil…just one of the many reasons you are just like your daddy! You also have an affection for fireworks, so we try to stay for them when we go to K.I. at night. You may be sleepy by then, but you love saying the colors you see and shouting, “Boom!”

You continue to talk up a storm and learn new things each day. You even learned how to say, “Michigan” before our trip. Once we were home, you would tell me, “I want to go to Mich-i-gan” when you would wake up. (Yet another reason you are just like your daddy! You loved that place!)

I have loved every second of having you for a daughter. Sure some days are tough, but that is to be expected. I read somewhere that children know all the right buttons to push with their parents because their job is to help develop their parents’ character and patience. So as much as I try to teach you things every day, you are teaching ME every day, too!

I can honestly say that you are the best thing that ever happened to me. I am proud of many accomplishments in my life, but you are my pride and joy. If everything else was taken away from me, yet I still had you (and your daddy and brother, too, of course!), I would still be a happy girl. You make me love your dad even more, and you put it in our hearts to have your brother. With such a great first born, how could we NOT want another child?! I must say that you and your brother make me want to continue adding to our family. Not for awhile (I have my hands full as it is!), but I think the world can use as many Hamberg kiddos as we can give it! 😉

Thanks for being your sweet and sassy self!

I have LOTS of pictures of Peyton from our trip to Michigan. I will save those for the post about our trip. For now, I thought I’d share a few of Jason painting Peyton’s toe nails the other night. He will probably kill me for posting these, but seriously…how cute are they?! This girl is so lucky to have him for a daddy. He would (literally) do anything for her! (Oh, and how about that beer box he used to paint her nails on?! Cracked me up.)

Age: 5/6 Months

Stats: 16 pounds (22%) and 27 1/2 inches long (83%). Peyton better watch out – she was still only 20 pounds at her 2 year appointment! I bet Aiden will catch up with her by 9 months.

New Developments:

Aiden has become a rolling machine the past few months. He prefers to be on his belly, so he will quickly flip when put on the floor. This means he has also started sleeping on his belly. While this of course made me nervous, I can tell that he is most comfortable sleeping that way. My kids are belly sleepers…what can I say?!

In addition to rolling, his other favorite past time is chewing and drooling. This boy always seems to have his hands and fingers in his mouth. Sometimes he gets his entire fist in there…

AJune 2013-71

I guess his feet taste pretty good, too…

AJune 2013-74

He has also learned how to do raspberries, which is always a favorite new trick!

AJune 2013-75

We’ve tried baby food, but he is not the biggest fan. Here he is trying some prunes. Poor guy had to skip cereal and go straight to prunes due to constipation. 🙁

AMay 2013-58

This kid seems to prefer fruits over veggies. (Can’t blame him!) Here are some funny ones of him eating peas for the first time…

AJune 2013-43AJune 2013-35

Favorite Things:

His favorite thing to do is to laugh at Peyton! She can get him to crack up with minimal effort. He is super ticklish and thinks it’s hysterical when we tickle him. I seriously don’t remember Peyton being so smiley and giggly. We call him our happy boy!

We pulled out the jumperoo and put away the swing. Aiden loves playing with the toys on it, and is slowly learning how to turn around and jump. He loves being upright instead of always laying down.

He is much more interested in toys lately. Mainly, he enjoys chewing on everything he can get his hands on. He tries to play with some of Peyton’s toys, but she is not much into sharing these days. I can only imagine how many fights are in store once Aiden gets mobile and starts taking more of sissy’s toys! HA!

Note From Mama:

I can’t believe you are already a half a year old already! Before I know it, we’ll be celebrating your first birthday. It seems like just yesterday we met for the first time. I’m afraid that if I blink, you’ll be heading off to college! I’ll tell you what I always tell your sister – slow down a little bit…please?!

You are at such a fun age! You are very alert, you observe everything, and you are trying to participate more in whatever we are doing. You especially enjoy trying to keep up with your sister. She will spin around and say silly things, and you will just crack up laughing. If she ever falls down and lands on you, instead of crying, you laugh even harder. It warms my heart to see you two together. You are already the best of friends, and I can’t wait to watch your friendship continue to grow.

You are my snuggly little guy, and continue to be a mama’s boy. You are getting better about going to other people, though, which is good. I love cuddling with you and getting you to smile and laugh. Those baby blue eyes of yours get me every time. Combined with your gorgeous long lashes, those eyes are going to drive the girls wild someday!

You have added so much to our family since you came into this world. Not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for sending you to join your daddy, sister, and I. You have been the best addition to our family, and I am so lucky to call you my son. You have me wrapped around those little fingers of yours, and I look forward to all the mommy/son memories we will make in the future.

I love you, my little man!

Of course we had to do one for daddy for Father’s Day! 🙂

April 29, 2013

Age: 4 Months

Stats: 13 lbs., 13 ounces (45%); 26 ¼ inches long (92%)

New Developments:

Aiden has grown up a lot in the last month. He definitely doesn’t have any more “newborn” left in him. It makes me happy and sad all at the same time. He can roll both from his back to belly, and belly to back, but doesn’t do either often. He prefers to roll onto his side and stay there. 🙂

Aiden is officially sleeping in his crib! FINALLY! The transition went really well. He was about 3 ½ months when he finally got kicked out of mommy and daddy’s room. We planned to do it earlier, but he kept getting sick and I didn’t want him sleeping flat on his back all night with congestion and an ear infection. Once he was healthy, our video monitor’s handset broke and we had to wait for a replacement to arrive. Sooooo….Mr. Aiden got to hang in our room a little longer than expected. Now that he’s in his own room, he usually sleeps from about 8:00 – 7/7:30ish. I am so thankful for another good sleeper. I think God knows how much I need my sleep to function!

Favorite Things:

He’s been spending less time in his swing, and a lot more time on his play mat and Bumbo. He is also starting to be able to hold toys and chew on them. One of his new favorite things to do is DROOL! He acts like he’s teething, but I’m not counting on any teeth appearing anytime soon. Peyton acted the exact same way early on, and didn’t end up getting her first tooth until about 9 months. We shall see!

Note From Mama:

Your little personality is definitely starting to shine through. You continue to smile and laugh a bunch, which makes my heart sing. You think whatever I say or do is funny, but we’ll see how long that lasts. I’m sure the eye rolls and “Aw, mom!” comments are just around the corner! But for now, I will eat up every ounce of your affections!

You sure have found your voice this month. You talk (AKA squeal) every chance you get. I don’t remember your sister talking this much so young. You get so excited, flailing your arms and legs around, screaming your heart out. I would love to know what you’re telling us!

You continue to be a mama’s boy, and are starting to show “stranger anxiety” behaviors. I know this is a phase most babies go through, but you seem to be exceptionally clingy to me. I’m sure part of it is due to the fact that I have stayed home with you thus far, and you really haven’t had any other people watch you aside from grandparents. I want to feel bad about this, but you know what? I don’t! I wouldn’t trade my decision to stay home with you for ANYTHING. I have faith that you’ll get over it and will become the social butterfly that your sister continues to be. For now I’ll just enjoy the fact that you want your mama all of the time, because I know those days are numbered.

While I have loved watching you grow and change these last four months, I need you to do me a favor – SLOW DOWN! You are getting much too big, much too fast. I know that if I blink, you’ll be Peyton’s age – running around, talking up a storm, and wanting your independence. I am trying to hold on to these “baby months” as long as I can!

I love you to the moon and back, little man!

Age: 22 Months

Stats: 20 lbs, 8 ounces (or around there…Miss Sassy decided to fight sitting on the scale at the doctor! Ugh)

New Developments:

Oh boy…where do I start?! She is talking like crazy these days, and has even started using phrases and, at times, even complete sentences! She tends to quiet down in public or in new situations, but at home…she.doesn’t.shut.up! At the doctor on Friday, she very matter-of-factly said, “Go home, mommy! Go home!” (As mentioned above, she was not the best patient for her weight check.) She can repeat pretty much anything you tell her (Jason needs to watch what he says more carefully! Ahem!). She knows words for things that I have NO idea how she learned them. She is quite the sponge these days!

She knows all but a few of her letters (can recognize and point to them, and tell you the letter’s name when you ask her), knows all of her colors, and is starting to count! She says, “One, two, three, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve!” No clue why she skips four, five, and six. At first I didn’t know why she was counting to twelve and not stopping at ten. Then it dawned on me…we count the stairs as we go up and down, so she’s used to hearing numbers higher than ten! See? A sponge, I tell you!

We transitioned her to a toddler bed Friday night. Yes, my two-months-away-from-being-two daughter is officially in a big girl bed. I was planning on holding off on this transition for as long as humanly possible. However, she started expressing an interest in trying to get out of her crib the past week, and succeeded once. So, for her safety, we had to do it now. So far it has been bearable, but definitely not my favorite milestone so far! I will try and write more about this new development later.

Favorite Things:

Peyton has been OBSESSED with Cozy Coupe cars for awhile now. Her babysitter had one, and Peyton would sit in that thing all day. Literally – she wouldn’t get out. I debated buying her one, but they were kind of pricey, and so I was waiting for her birthday. I saw one on an online yard sale site, and just had to buy it. It is by far her favorite thing these days. Every time we go in the garage, we hear, “Car! Car!” She loves driving it around our patio out back. I think we’ll get every penny out of that silly car!

Aside from that, I have learned a few things that are NOT Peyton’s favorites in the past month:

Note From Mama:

Well, my dear, you are almost two years old. I can tell that because you are trying harder than ever to be independent. While at times you frustrate me and try every last bit of patience, I know it’s just part of you growing up. You have a mind of your own, and you like to do things YOUR way. Now that you can talk pretty well, you have no problem speaking your mind! I hope to be a kind but firm guide for you as you test the limits and boundaries in life. I can only hope that you’ll grow to be a kind, independent, and motivated young lady. But for now, you are my sweet, sassy, and spunky little girl!

You continue to be so good to your baby brother. You share your toys with him, (try to) pick him up, give him hugs and kisses, and say, “Aiden, don’t cry! Don’t cry, Aiden!” You are a little mommy to him, and it gives me a glimpse into how great of a mommy YOU will make someday! You also mommy your baby dolls – feeding them bottles, wrapping them in blankets, tucking them into their crib, and of course showering them with kisses. As much of a tom-boy as you are, you LOVE your babies!

Speaking of what you love…can we talk about your recent obsession with BASEBALL?! You enjoy watching it on TV with your daddy, and anytime you see something baseball related (like in your brother’s nursery!), you say, “Baseball!” We took you to your first Red’s game of the season, and you loved every second of it. You even ate some ballpark nachos, which was a definite first! I am sure you will frequent many Red’s games with your dad. (You should see his smile when he’s watching baseball with his girl!)

We’ve had another great month together, and I am looking forward to the warmer weather that should hopefully be on its way to STAY!

Your Mama

Below are pictures from the fun things we did this month. Enjoy! 🙂

I painted Peyton’s nails for the first time, hoping it would make her more comfortable with us touching her feet (she HATES when we cut her toe nails!). She quickly became obsessed with her painted nails, and she says, “Pink!” every time she sees her toes. Pretty cute, if you ask me!

My girl LOVES to play outside! We took a walk around the block. I pushed Aiden in the stroller, and Peyton pushed her baby. 🙂

My mom invited us and our good friends, the Sparks family, to make pizza at Dewey’s to raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Braxton seemed to enjoy watching them make the pizzas, but Peyton cried the whole time. 🙁 We all enjoyed eating the pizzas, though!

Jason and his sisters threw a surprise 60th birthday party for their mom and dad. We had the party at the club house in our new neighborhood where our lot is. We told them that the party was for my Grandma. By the looks on their faces, I think they were surprised! 🙂

As you can see, we had a very busy but fun month!

April 07, 2013

Well, here we are a week after Easter and I’m just now getting around to blogging about it! (Story of my life lately.)

We had a pretty low-key Easter this year. It was great because this was the first year Peyton could actually participate in Easter festivities. First off was baking Easter cookies. Since I’ve been home full-time lately, I’ve gotten much more daring when it comes to cooking and baking. We went over to the Mayne family‘s house to decorate Valentine’s Day cookies awhile back. I was so impressed with the cookies and icing – they were soooo yummy and looked like what you’d find in a store! Hillary was nice enough to share the links to the recipes. So Peyton and I decided to make homemade sugar cookie dough and icing for Easter! (Click on the links and you, too, can make these yummy treats!) This was a big feat for me because let’s face it… I don’t usually make things from scratch. But they turned out great! Peyton had fun decorating a few cookies before bed one night. Mommy did the rest! 😉

BMarch 2013-87BMarch 2013-98BMarch 2013-171

I was the Easter Bunny when it came to buying the eggs, treats, and Easter baskets/goodies. Jason was in charge of being the Easter Bunny and hiding the eggs the night before. He had so much fun doing it, so I think this will be his job every year! Peyton woke up pretty early Easter morning,  and Aiden was still sleeping (that.never.happens). It was great that Peyton got some alone time with us to do her little Easter egg hunt and check out her goodies. She caught on right away about hunting for eggs, and loved every minute of it! She also loved her Easter basket goodies. Her favorite things were a pink car, bubbles, and a necklace/bracelet set. She also loved eating the marshmallows, jelly beans, and M&M’s out of her eggs.

After the egg hunt, we ate breakfast and hung out for a bit. Aiden woke up and decided to join us. 🙂 We then decided to color Easter eggs. I had planned ahead and baked (yes, not boiled) the eggs the night before. Peyton got a kick out of dying the eggs with her daddy. Believe it or not, we didn’t even make a mess!

This is one of my favorite pictures of Peyton and Jason. I just love how she’s looking up at him. This girl ADORES her daddy. Melts my heart. 😀

BMarch 2013-159BMarch 2013-172

We hung out at our house for most of the day. We thought about attempting Church, but with two little ones, we thought it best to skip this year. But we still remembered the reason for the special day! We went to dinner at Bravo’s with my parents, Grandma, and our family friend, Millie. Nothing says Easter like Italian food, right?! 😉 Jaosn’s parents were in Florida over Easter, so we didn’t get to see them. 🙁 But we knew they were having a blast and enjoying some nicer weather!  After dinner, we went back to my parents’ house for their Easter egg hunt for Peyton. This girl is SPOILED. Grandpa Roo hid the eggs, and Peyton loved finding them. He made them kind of tricky, but she was up for the challenge! I can’t wait until Aiden can more fully participate in our traditions next year.

BMarch 2013-192 BMarch 2013-196 BMarch 2013-201

I had attempted some pictures of the two kiddos in their Easter outfits. I had bought Peyton’s dress and Aiden’s dress shirt last summer on clearance at Crazy 8. This mama loves a good deal! 😉 I was happy that both outfits fit, considering I was preggo with Aiden when I bought them, and it’s hard to predict Peyton’s growth. Peyton’s dress was a little big (it was a size 18 months, for crying out loud!), and Aiden’s was a little small. But it all worked out nonetheless! As you can see from the photos, it’s a bit of a challenge getting a good picture of BOTH kids. Here were our best shots:

We had a great Easter, and hope you and your families did as well. We continue to be thankful every day for all we’ve been blessed with.
